Resumo

The main goal of this study is to analyse the effects of sex and attentional capability of a sample of private security guards on their subjective assessment of job mental workload. NASA-TLX was used to evaluate mental workload, and subjects attentional capability was meaured as the performance score obtained by the subjects in the execution of a dinamic dual task compound by a version of Sternberg memory task and a tracking task. Only the performance scores on the most objective difficult dual version were used as measure of subjects attentional capabilitiy. In general, the results showed that security guards feel middel-high levels of mental workload. In considering sex effects, women feel mental workload levels significantly higher than men, principally due to a higher score in physical demand, effort and temporal demand. No significant effects of attentional capability were found. However the group with smaller attentional capability arise higher mental workload scores, specially on physical demand. Finally, the results showed no significant relationships between sex and attentional capability
