Abstract

In order to understand the genetic relations between neotectonic deformation rates and the morphology of the southern Almería region, we have integrated a pluridisciplinary methodology. Morphological aspects of the area Adra-Berja-Dalías have been analysed by using neotectonic mapping, digital elevation models and fluvial network features. Using the topographic position of some stratigraphic markers several uplift rates associated to the neotectonic structure of the area have been estimated. Lateral variations of these rates are consistent with block movements controlled by NW-SE normal faults. Regional tilting processes, linked with these movements, are identified in the Sierra de Gádor, Sierra de Alhamilla and Campo Dalías. These tectonic blocks seem to be active during the current tectonic regime.
