Abstract

We studied the chemical composition of the volatile oil from Thymus capitellatus Hoffmanns. & Link. The results obtained were compared with those of volatile oils of Th. carnosus Boiss, and Th. camphoratus Hoffmanns. & Link. The essential oil of Th. capitellatus was shown to contain alpha-terpineol (9,00%), 1,8-cineole (8,34%), linalool (31,64%) and linalyl acetate (9,30%) as main components. Other minor constituents were the canphene (2,75%), camphor (3,33 %), borneol (5,50 %) and geraniol (4,17 %). Thymus capitellatus thus showed a mixed chemotype.
