Zusammenfassung

The purpose of this study is to show a complete and updated picture of the empirical research focused on the core of the Social Cognitive Career Theory (Lent, Brown & Hackett, 1994, 2000). For this aim 28 articles were identified and revised. All of them tested the social cognitive model of career and academic interests and choices and had been published between 1996 and 2006. Firstly, in this article the social cognitive theoretic approach is introduced in the context of career development literature and the model studied is briefly described. Then the main characteristics of the revised studies are presented and their results are summarized. Research generally indicates support for the social-cognitive career model as a way to predict the relations between self-efficacy, outcome expectation, interest and vocational goals. Finally, implications of the results and suggestions for the future research are considered.
