Zusammenfassung
The article analyses the evolution of employment and productivity in eleven branches of the service sector in the EU countries during 1994-2005 period. The objective is to quantify the relative contribution of each branch to the productivity growth of the service sector and assess whether the sector is overcoming the Baumol�s disease. The main conclusion is that productivity growth follows a dual path (it is dynamic in a few branches, but stagnant in others), but employment is increasingly concentrated in sectors where productivity barely grows or even decreases.
