Abstract

In this paper we analyse the process of the accelerated growth of the investments by the transnational corporations since the 70s, most of which (almost 90%) are mergers and cross-border purchases. These strategies predominately orientate towards the market, together with the benefit of salary advantages and natural resources, and a trend to develop global integrated production and commercialization systems, with regional differences. Geographically they concentrate both; in developed countries and regions with high income or large markets with a significant growth, or in a sectorial way in a reduced number of activities of services with strong assets in infrastructures, finance and services to companies. In the manufacturing sector there is predominately investment in industry based on the old technological pattern, orientation that influences the degree of the corporations transnationalization.
