Abstract

This text is based on qualitative research on women who decide to be single mothers, either through adoption or through assisted reproduction techniques. It describes and analyzes, in a differential mode and from a gender perspective, the presence and importance of motherhood and the process of achieving that end for these women and how they coordinate and make visible in those Internet spaces (forums mainly) qualified by themselves. It is also analyzed the ambiguities and paradoxes associated with their social image and the legitimation of their behaviour. New technologies give rise to an information, learning, discussion and empowerment space while building women's networks of solidarity and exchange.
