Abstract

In the present study, we analyzed the presence of aggressive acts towards the partner in a sample of 928 men and 969 women from the Region of Madrid, aged between 18 and 80 years, mean age 39.76 years. The estimations were by gender, taking into account both the perpetration and the victimization of psychological, physical and sexual aggressions, independently for women and men. The results show that the men consider themselves more as perpetrators than as victims of sexual aggression, and no differences were observed in psychological or physical aggression. The women consider themselves more as aggressors than as victims of psychological aggression and more as victims of sexual aggression. Taking into account the participants' age, the same tendency was observed in all types of aggression: both the percentages of perpetration and of victimization for psychological, physical, and sexual aggression decrease significantly as the participants' age increases. Lastly, the importance of these results is discussed with a view to the development of intervention programs.
