Abstract

The Enlightenment and the XVIIIth Century constitute an important turning-point with respect to the Press and Women. The first emerges as a means of communication with increasing social and political influence, which explains why we find in its pages the writings of the most famous thinkers, authors and politicians alongside articles by lesser or unknown contributors, sometimes the readers themselves. The field of the press was, as were so many others, a masculine ambit in which women achieved a significant presence towards the middle of the Century. We find them exercising a double role: as the subjects of reflection and as participants in the life of periodicals. The aim of the present research is to analyse the profiles revealed by this feminine activity, citing debates and questions that still persist.
