Resumen

The aim of this study is to investigate the acid-base balance when performing a maximal field test of professional soccer players. During the practice of physical exercise in a wide range of intensity, the pH is maintained close to resting values. At higher intensities the pH drops in inverse proportion. The different buffer systems of the body are responsible for these variations. The variables that determine the pH can be divided into independent and dependent, being the study of them essential to understanding the changes in acidbase balance. In this study we analyzed three variables that determine the changes in pH: the partial pressure of CO2 (pPCO2), the concentration of bicarbonate (HCO3 -) and lactate concentration. The determinations were performed on capillary blood in nineteen players while performing an incremental exercise.
