Resumo
The traditional view of unusual profits of defence contractors is based upon some considerations. Between them it can be found the use of defence procurement as a policy tool aimed to support new technological activities and R&D expenditure, the bargaining power of the firms and some kind of inefficient behaviour of the ministries of defence. The results of the paper point out that effectively defence procurement contractors obtain positive profits from these contracts based on a kind of prizes to R&D investment and the market power the firms have.
