Abstract
The dolomites from Caborredondo anticline (Cantabria) are massive and homogeneous, have obliterated and irregular distribution. Petrographically are composed by xenotopic to hypidiotopic crystals ranging from 100 microns to 1 mm., have relict texture and nucleous with zonation (cloudy centers) are very common. From a geochemical point of view, these dolomites presents a higher content in Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn and lower content in Sr than primitive limestones. Based in these characteristics, we consider that dolomites are formed by migrating cuencal brines of lateral evolution enriched in Mg++ through diagenesis of clay sediments during a late diagenetic stage.
