The lamb is one of the most common and frequent Christological symbols. In early Christian art, especially while the cross was considered to be a shameful symbol, the lamb appears mainly as a symbol of martyrdom and the death of Christ, but sometimes it also represents the faithful surrounding the figure of the Good Shepherd or moving towards Mount Zion.
