Zusammenfassung
Gingivitis and periodontitis comprise the two major infections of the periodontum. Gingivitis occurs in virtually all humans. Advanced periodontitis is limited to 10-15% of most adult populations. The microbial composition of the disease producing plaque and several putative host susceptibility factors for periodontitis have been elucidated during the last two decades. In this article we review the diferents microbiological aspects, and the management of local or systemic treatment in periodontics.
