Zusammenfassung

The association of oral candidosis with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has been known since the advent of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) pandemic. Oral candidiasis is one of the earliest premonitory signs of HIV infection, and may present as erythematous, pseudomembranous, hyperplastic and angular cheilitis. Cumulative data from 20 surveys (incorporating 3,347 adults) suggest that in general, oral candidiasis may develop in one-third to half of HIV-seropositive persons. Current concepts pertaining to the epidemiology, clinical features and treatment of oral candidiasis in HIV infected are reviewed.
