Abstract

Both in Spain and in other countries, there has been a debate on the teaching of Medicine which has been taken into account when updating new Spanish curricula. However, even though a series of interesting proposals were made at the Edimburgh Declaration, these have not been put into practice. The major problem, according to the authors of the article, is the separation between university education, medical practice and society itself. A wide consensus of the professional a social role of the Physician in needed so that precise proposal can be incorporated into pregraduate medical teaching, along with the redistribution of human resources in Medical Schools, of their role in Medical teaching, financial resources and also a long-term study of the need of graduates that Medical Schools must cover. This study should take into account the time available and an efficient curricular programme, with clear aims and a continuous assessment of the former aims.
