Abstract

In the Spanish Penal Code offenses against family rights and duties are stipulated with the aim of protecting the family, especially the most vulnerable members such as children and disabled persons. This is because neither social measures, nor any other branch of the system, such as civil law, have been sufficient to ensure the protection of the family. Accordingly this paper is aimed at discussing the following crimes: breaching of the parental custody duties, inducting minors to abandon their homes, infringement of custody arrangements, child abduction, family abandonment, unpaid economic benefits judicially granted in matrimonial proceedings, alimony payments, parenthood proceedings, and abandonment of minors and disabled persons.
