Abstract
Based on a sample of 136 Canadian companies we suggest a range of guidelines covering the actions of persons who are responsible for facilitating the development and retention of talent in their organizations. The results of the analysis show that the most Innovative organizations use a first-movers strategy and are able, with the mediation of certain human resources policies, to achieve improved organizational and individual results in the fields of financial performance, innovation and turnover. The same policies make a significant contribution to the generation both of commitment and of organizational flexibility in this kind of firm.
