Abstract
A very particular aspect of the (controversial) disappearance of the old GDR is linked to the almost complete disappearance of its landscapes. Aparadigm of this great change is the radical transformation of Berlin's city centre. In Berlin, more than any other city, the disappearance of time along with the disappearance of space is very interesting. This begs the question of whether the increased sense of nostalgia might be related to the impossibility of reliving the past because fewer and fewer physical traces of it remain. Through images of the city in ten feature films, this paper reflects on changing spaces in relation to the passage of time, on the concept of documentation and the peculiar phenomenon of memory.
