Abstract

Burning Mouth Syndrome {BMS] is an entity which has been known far a long time. lt consists on a burning sensation of the oral mucosa without any clinical sign. lt is usually found in women in the middle age ar even in the elderly. The etiology is unknown but many factors has been described to be related to the symptoms: local, systemic or psychological factors. Last researches suggests that a neurological factor could be involved in the development of the disease. Because of the lack of knowledge about the etiology, nowadays, there is not an effective treatment for most of the patients. This paper reviews the etiology of BMS, the management of the patients and the treatment.
