Abstract

This paper presents the fundamentals of the oxygen stable isotope chemostratigraphy and its application in the scientific field of past climate variability reconstruction, for different time and space scales. The discipline, which has experienced an enormous progress in the last few decades, is providing new clues for the characterization of climatic changes, their causes and impacts, at an unprecedented resolution. This progress will contribute to a better understanding of today’s climate change and its future evolution. The article includes a practical case which could be used with students in the classroom
