Sourcing strategies and productivityevidence for Spanish manufacturing firms

Resumen

Este artículo explora la relación entre la productividad y las estrategias de abastecimiento utilizando una muestra de empresas manufactureras españolas. En este análisis utilizamos diferentes medidas de productividad y formas alternativas de agrupar empresas. Nuestros resultados indican que la productividad difiere sistemáticamente entre grupos de empresas con diferentes estrategias de abastecimiento. El ranking de productividades que observamos no es totalmente coherente con las predicciones de Antràs y Helpman (2004)modelo pero confirmamos muchos aspectos parciales de la clasificación propuesta. En nuestras especificaciones preferidas, la ventaja de productividad es más alta para las empresas que importan insumos de subsidiarias extranjeras. Además, el grupo de empresas que subcontratan en el mercado nacional se encuentra, en general, en la parte inferior de la distribución de la productividad, y las empresas que subcontratan en el exterior tienen una ventaja de productividad intermedia. Al analizar la dirección de causalidad entre la productividad y las estrategias de abastecimiento, encontramos evidencia débil de autoselección de empresas para la deslocalización y ninguna influencia de la deslocalización en la productividad de la empresa.
