Abstract

The aim of this work is the exploration of groundwater resources in the southeastern corner of the Sahara territory to alleviate the basic needs of the nomadic population of the region, and also assess the possibility of building new settlements in the area. It is the first time a geological, hydrogeological and geophysical work in this particular area of the Sahara is performed. Electrical Resistivity profiles show low values of apparent resistivity deeper than 50 meters, opening the door to the possibility of finding sufficient water, especially in areas of deep fractures. Preferred areas where located boreholes are alluvial fans, sabkhas and alluvial valley with fracturing. It remains a vast field of research when political conditions allow proper investigation.
