Abstract
The differences between radiographic and clinical diagnosis of proximal caries are analized, as well as the dfferences in the radiographic caries diagnosis among several clinicians. 1760 proximal posterior tooth surfaces were examined, clinically and by means of bite-wing X-ray. 49.3% more cavities were detected radiographically, as compared with the clinical observation alone. When comparing radiographic diagnosis by several examiners, discrepancies were found mostly in the diagnosis of enamel lesions.
