Resumen
The papers aims at achieving a better unders tanding of the process of creation and consolidation of popular literature in printed form in Spain. The article studies the corpus of remaining post-incunabula poetic chapbooks written in Castilian Spanish (pliegos sueltos poéticos). The focus is on the variety of factors that play a role in the creation of this literary, editorial and commercial product: the interconnection with the horizons of reception of an urban culture, thematic selections and printing strategies, production centers, visual and material presentations, as well as circulation and sales circuits
