Abstract
Cultural tourism is a complex phenomenon, measurement and interpretation difficult. There are numerous studies about the destinations where it develops (historic cities, large urban centers, rural areas, etc.). Yet hardly any studies on cultural motivations in issuing tourist societies. This paper presents the results of a survey on the motivation and behavior of the cultural component of the trips made by the population of Madrid during the autumn of 2009. Specifically presented, addressing issues such as weight motivational travel / cultural practice within the set of displacements of more commercial orientation; the territorial deployment of these trips; duration and form of organization; the importance of the cultural component in shaping the travel and the choice of destination; or cultural activities undertaken during the displacement.
