Abstract

Introduction: One of the most critical moments in the pediatric dental treaiment is the application of local aneslhesia in the child. The use of I C T (Information and Communications Technology) through three-dimensional analomical models represents a major breakthrough for siudenl learning in the Health Care field. because planning and displaying the susceptible área to be anesthetized and their application in different clinical cases will provide grealer securily and confidence to the student. Ohjectives: To créale lools to help the acquisilion and assessment of diagnostic skills through complementary 3D tests and its applicalions in pediatric palients; to provide computer resources for learning and self-assessment of skills in aneslhesia procedures applied lo pediatric palients; to know the improvable aspects of the project according lo the student; to compare this new way of learning with tradilional melhcxls in terms of the benefits in the acquisilion of knowledge on the subject. Materials and methods: The project will be developed in the Complutense University of Madrid Facully of Dentistry. with the support of compuier elements that the research team has and that usually works wilh. Wilh the design of compuier and audiovisual methtxls. which increase the effeclive learning with Ihe support of ihe Virtual Campus. wc creaied real child virtual model of the maxilla and mandible in our previous project (PIMCD # 201 cali 2014). Il will be implemenied images ihal reproduce real síiualions of clinical cases, where the siudenl musí carry out their resptinsibilities for proper application and evaluation of complemenlary tesis in Pediatric Dentistry. In addilion. from ihe crealion of the ihree-dimensiona! models, the research team will conducl clinical application cases in which the student musí implemenl the acquisilion of competences in aneslhesia prwedures and sysiems applied lo pediatric palients. All this will lead lo ihe possibilily of ihe evaluation by the teacher and aiso ihe self-evalualion by students. within the framework of the Virtual Campus. With this project we plan to desing a tool to facilitate the teaching-learning process of kwowledge. Results: Dentistry students lack enough knowledge ont he current options of complementary diagnostic tests and its use in pediatric patients. Conclusions: The practical utility of this project in the Dentistry teaching area can be summarized in several points: Initiatives for the acquisition and assessment of generic and tranversat skills; establishing good practices in virtual education; transfer and application of positive experiences in the virtual learning to various teaching levels; development of innovate teaching methods to improve the system of teaching/learning; educational strategies development for student autonomous learning and designing of methodologies that increase the efficient learning with the support of Virtual Campus and online learning environments.
