Abstract

The article presents the first complete literal paleographic transcription of glosses and commentaries (also referred to as European Written Book – EWB) of a relatively late document (from the end of XVII or the beginning of XVIII century): Fiestas Codex. The value of this work is paramount, for this is a copy of the codex from the middle of XVI century, nowadays lost Libro de Figuras. Both of the codices belong to the so called Magliabechiano Group, and the Fiestas Codex should be treated as one of its greater members, as it substitutes to a large extent the missing original, especially as for its EWB. Consequently the conclusion is drawn that the value of the EWB of this particular codex is outstanding. Nevertheless, as the Fiestas Codex is merely a copy of the original, its glosses and commentaries should be treated with utmost caution since the information they contain might have undergone a process of degeneration resulting from copyists’ misinterpretations or misunderstandings.
