Abstract

Neurofibroma is an uncommon tumor which rarely appears in the oral cavity. Neurofibromas can be solitary or mu/tiple, the latterform being known as neurofibromatosis or Recklinghausen 's disease. The case reported deals with a solitmy neu.rofibroma affecting the lower anterior alveolar mucosa and presenting as a smooth dome shaped mass. The clinical characteristics are described and the dif.ferential diagnosis with other mesenchymal tumors is discussed, emphasizing the importance of a proper diagnosis and postoperative care in order to detect malignant changes or even the presence of a generalized neurofibromatosis.
