Abstract

Professional photography organizations appeared during the first decade of the 20th century in order to defend the interests of its members and, in particular, author’s rights and the dignity of the profession. There were several attempts to achieve a union of these entrepreneurs on a national scale, although it was not until the end of 1918 that the Unión Fotográfica entity was founded with close to two hundred members from all over Spain. In order to promote its activities and share experiences, the Unión Fotográfica magazine was created, under the direction of Antonio Cánovas del Castillo (Kâulak). The goal of this study is to analyze the functioning, structure and contents of the magazine, its importance to the entrepreneurial sector and determine the authors and main subjects discussed therein, along with other aspects of interest for photographic documentation and the History of Photography.
