Abstract
In the second half of the 16th and the first decades of the 17th century, the image Spaniards have of Escandinavia is that of a far away and misty land where all sorts of supernatural phenomena take place. The idea of climactic determinism together with goticism offer respectively a negative and positive image of the northern peoples. The Thirty Years War brought closer this land and its people to the geograhical imaginary of Spaniards, losing forever in the process their misterious character
