Resumo
The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of gingivitis in a population of children in the Community of Madrid. 112 children were examined using the Gingival Bleeding Index(GBI) (Ainamo & Bay) and the Plaque Index (PI) (Silness 6 Löe) to evaluate the prevalence/severity of gingivitis and dental hygiene, respectively. An attempt has been made to correlate these parameters with other factors such as habits, socieconomic conditions, diet, etc. The PI of the sample was 1.82, with a prevalence opg gingivitis of 57.14% There were differencies depending on the age of the children. The mean of GBI was 6.73%, wich suggests a high prevalence of gingivitis but with a low severity. Prevalence and severity of gingivitis increase statisfically with a decrease in brushing and an increase in plaque index.
