Abstract
A review is made of the use of antibiotics in periodontal therapy based on the importance of microorganisms in the etiology of periodontal diseases. Despite having not found the ideal antibiotic nor rationale antibiotic treatment outlines for these diseases, we have synthesized those situations where the use of ATB may improve the patient´s condition. Microflora of healthy and diseased periodontum is presented and general characteristics of some antibiotics are described together with their periodontal effects.
