Resumen
Different stages of skeletal maturity in X-rays taken or the hand-wrist of 571 children of both sexes, ages ranging from 6 to 15, have been assessed. These stages have been related according to cronological age to the curve of growth velocity taken from a sample of spanish children. The purpose of this was to find out which stages of skeletal maturity coincide with the onset and end of growth in puberty. The stages related to the onset of pubescent growth were H-1 (initial ossification of the hook of the hamate) and R= (Radius; epiphysis is as wide as its diaphysis) in girls and Pisi (appearance of pisiform) in boys. The stage re!ated to the end of adolescent growth in girls was the Ru (Radius; complete epiphyseal union). At the age when the study finished, the boys had not finished growing.
