One of the problems involved in the orthodontic treatment is the patient's cooperation, on which depends the quality of the results in many cases. With the aim of finding the causes which influence the patient's cooperation and of being able to increase it, a research work was developed by a group of orthodontits and psychologists, consisting in the development of a psycotherapeutic support program which was called psycoprophylaxis. The program was introduced during one year and a comparative study was carried out later with the patients who had nor follow the program and who were being treated in the same clinic. From the obtained results, the following conclusions were reached: 1. The Orthodontic treatment does not seem to affect family integration. 2. When the suitable psychological technics are applied in Orthodontic treatment, there is an important decrease in the self-rejection the patients experiment. 3. The Orthodontic treatment tends to decrease the patient's aggressiveness. 4. The psycoprophylactic program reduces the aggressiveness in more than twice the normal degree. 5. There is a tendency to reduce the regression desires throughout the treatment, possibly imputable to the increase of the patient's maturity. 6. The decrease in the regression desires is more than twice the normal degree when the suitable psycotherapeutic technics are employed. 7. The Orthodontic treatment brings about favourable changes in the reality settlement though the psycoprophylactic program greatly favours them. 8. The orthodontic treatment provokes an introversion tendency. This tendency seems to be reduced by means of the proper psycoprophylatic treatment. 9. The psycoprophylatic treatment proved to be very suitable for the behaviour changes necessary to obtain a better cooperation of the patient; both, in the maintenance of the bucal hygiene and in the use of Orthodontic appliances. 10. From the statements above, we can infer that the psycoprophylaxis program involves an improvement of the patient's personality, of their family integration and of their cooperation, proving to be a useful means in the Orthodontic treatment, because it considerably reduces the time the professional employs in order to obtain the patient's cooperation. The cost that involves the maintenance of a Psichology Section is very compensated, not only for the saving of the professional's time but for the greater patient's cooperation as well.
