Prevalencia del abuso sexual infantil en hombres del norte de Chile y su salud psicológica y sexual

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the effects of child sexual abuse in the psychological and sexual health of Northern Chile men. The study involved 464 adult males (M= 27 ±6.76) of the city of Arica. The Questionnaire on Child Sexual Abuse of Lopez-Sanchez (1994) was applied to detect sexual abuse experiences; also, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) of Derogatis (1983) and the Brief Sexual Function Inventory (BSFI) of O’Leary et  al. 1995) were used in order to determine psychological symptoms and sexual problems. The prevalence of child sexual abuse in adult men was estimated at 8.4%. The victims showed more depressive symptoms, phobic anxiety, psychoticism, and sexual difficulties than non-victim men. The results show that sexual abuse is a serious problem in the male population, correlating with the development of psychological symptoms and sexual problems in adulthood.
