Resumen

This article describes some of the most important aspects of the «Circular Economy». It is presented both from the point of view of companies and business models and from the point of view of the economy of a country and at a global level. The concept of the Circular Economy is defined, and the principles on which it is based as well as its main characteristics are presented. Some important enabling factors, such as innovative business models, design for the sustainability, extending product life and waste prevention programs, are described. The 2015 European Union Action Plan is commented on, and finally, a general view on the implementation of the circular economy in the world is presented.
