Résumé

Facial type is a determinant factor in prognosis and orthodontic treatment. Facial type characteristics and its relationship with ideal occlusion are not thoroughly studied nowadays. This relationship is the aim of the present study performed in 107 adults with ideal occlusion. The sample was divided according to seven variables in different facial types and 188 cephalometric measures were utilized (all of them taken from Riolo's Atlas of Craniofacial growth). The outcomes show that dolicofacial type is not likely to have ideal occlusion, whereas mesofacial type even having smaller maxillary size than brachiofacial type, has equal arch length and so same ideal occlusion rate than brachiofacial type.
