Abstract
Gypsum is a common mineral that converts light chemical modifications make it a very versatile material in dentistry. Emptying impressions is one of the most widespread applications; namely, get a working model on which make dentures. This work was to analyze the influence of manipulation (mechanical/manual vacuum and current water of Canal Isabel II/double-distilled water) in the mechanical properties (surface hardness) around it, to evaluate its relevance in the prosthetic work. The mechanical vacuum discretely reduces, 14,67%, the surface hardness of gypsum type III . The quality of water, meanwhile, has effect null on this property. The resin-impregnated type IV gypsum increases 31,14% the surface hardness of gypsum type IV. Gypsum type V get a raise of 37.58% with respect to this same stone. The data support that the surface hardness is a mechanical phenomenon mildly affected by handling and that the evolution of material allows increasing the surface hardness in clinic circumstance.
