Abstract

Periodontal disease shows one of the highest prevalences among the oral disease. In order to evaluate the periodontal disease diagnosis capability of spanish board certified stomatologists, a "Research by questionnaire" was conducted among 8.787 spanish board certified stomatologists. The questionnaire included questions on the doctor´s age and place of work, specialized practiced and diagnostic procedures. Descriptive statics were applied to summarize and present the data. To test the significance of the observed differences between independent samples, the X2 (chi square) test was used. Young general stomatologists working in cities with over 500.000 inhabitants prevalied among the 587 respondents. Bleeding tooth mobility and gingival recession were the clinical signs most frequently used in diagnosis, followed by probing and radiographs.
