Laburpena

The 2015 field season in NW Ethiopia furnished several sites spanning the last two millenia, as well as many MSA and LSA sites. The more recent sites can be divided in three groups: pastoralist sites from transhumant communities coming from Sudan; settlements of communities engaged in mixed economies, including slash-and-burn agriculture, fishing, hunting and gathering; monastic sites from the Ethiopian highlands. Archaeological work was complemented by ethnoarchaeological and ethnographic research among the present indigenous communities of the area (Gumuz and Dats’in).
