Abstract

Gypsum is a common mineral to which minor chemical modifications make it a very versatile material in dentistry. One of its applications is the emptying of prints, i.e. obtaining a working model on which make dentures. A comparative experimental study on mechanical property of compressive strength of dental plaster is performed to elucidate its relevance in the result of the prosthetic work. Shown that a 57,89% (11/19) analyzed plasters comply with the values collected by the standard ISO 6873 for the compressive strength of this type of materials, while only a 10,52% (2/19) meet the data provided by the manufacturer. In addition, the plaster type IV enhanced with resin increases a 19,63% resistance to compare it with a plaster type conventional IV. Previous data to say that the hardness to compression of the plaster is a physical phenomenon whose measurement must be very rigorous and that the evolution of the material allows to increase their strength values in clinical situations real.
