Abstract

Oral diseases during pregnancy represent a significant public health problem because of its high prevalence and its impact on the mothers’ health and their children. Many studies have shown that many women do not go to the dentist during their pregnancies. Furthermore, access to dental care is directly related to the income level so women with less economic resources go less to the dentist. There is extensive evidence that dental treatments are safe during pregnancy. All health professionals which treat pregnant women and/or women of childbearing age should recommend them routinely to maintain a good oral hygiene, and inform the about the security and the importance of dental visits during pregnancy.
