Despite the increase in social relevance of the phenomenon of children who assault their parents, there is a remarkable shortage in the knowledge about the prevalence of this form of domestic violence. After reviewing the specific literature on this issue, some deficiencies have been observed in the different approaches from the literature dealing with the problem. Among others, these deficiencies include the lack of a consensual conceptualization and operationalization of violence towards parents. Similarly, the various research methodologies condition the wide variability found in the data; despite this fact, the data reflect the intensity and seriousness of the acts of aggression perpetrated by the young people. Consequently, this article aimed at conducting a thorough review of the prevalence data found in the specific literature dealing with this issue. With the help of data collected in different national and international community studies, it was found that the weighted average of physical aggression perpetrated against parents was 10.1%, which reflects the seriousness of this form of domestic violence. Furthermore, it highlights the need to develop specific preventive and therapeutic treatments aimed at families that experience this problem.
