Abstract

Violence towards parents has been a growing social phenomenon in recent years. Therefore, learning more about the profile that describes this type of young offenders can be useful for a therapeutic approach to this issue. After a thorough review of the clinical descriptive characteristics of these young people, certain factors of interest can be pointed out. Variables such as substance use, poor academic performance, maintenance of affiliations with violent peer groups, the presence of beliefs that help the young person to justify violence, low empathy, high frustration tolerance or difficulties in impulse control, as well as the presence of associated psychopathology, would be intimately related to the origin and/or maintenance of the problem. Consequently, it appears that the inclusion of all these factors in prevention and/or multi-component treatment programmes would be extremely important to provide a suitable approach to this issue.
