Resumen

The aim of this article is to review the relationship between the exposure to interparental and parent-to-child violence and child-to-parent violence (or violence towards parents). To this end, databases such as PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES and Psicodoc, as well as various secondary sources of information relevant to the phenomenon of violence towards parents, were searched. The results showed that, percentage-wise, exposure to different forms of family violence is very frequent in the phenomenon of violence towards parents. Thus, this exposure explained 16% to 45% of the violence perpetrated by children or adolescents against their parents. For these reasons, it seems that this is a relevant variable and must necessarily be taken into account in the development of multi-component prevention and intervention programmes aimed at the treatment of this type of family issues.
