Abstract

Dental ankylosis can occur as a result of severe traumatic injuries in permanent teeth. This pathology interferes in localized development of the maxilla, causing infraocclusion to a greater or lesser extent, compromising aesthetics and creating bone defects that are difficult to correct during adulthood. Decoronation consists of removing the crown of the ankylosed tooth while the root is left in the alveolar socket to be replaced by bone. The objective during growth is to preserve bone volume on the alveolar process, avoid its atrophy and improve the future prosthetic rehabilitation.
