Resumo

The order of language acquisition is a factor that marks differences among learners, both in grammatical correctness and in lexical acquisition, particularly in low frequency lexicon. In this paper we study to what extent the order of acquisition influences the perception, discrimination and retention of the lexicon of Spanish in Spanish as L3 and L4 in Arabic-speaking learners. We also investigate whether the order of acquisition is a factor that has the same influence when the lexicon that is acquired has a different frequency of discursive appearance. Finally, we review the possible implications of the findings for translation teaching pedagogy.
