El uso de la información visual en situaciones de limitación temporal en deportistas de élite de taekwondo

Abstract

In a taekwondo combat, athletes need to extract the most relevant stimuli to be able to respond quickly and succeed in its decision. The objective of this research was to deepen the understanding of visual perception of taekwondo experts and determine if this perception varies depending on the time limit to which they are subjected. 10 national team members performed a test in which they had to counter-attack against videos of attacks, projected life-size, where a part of the body of the opponent was occluding. Differences in reaction time, number of successes/ errors were measured and calculated the response efficiency. The results showed equally efficient reactions when occluding a part of the opponent that when it was shown in its totality, supporting the hypothesis of a holistic rather than analytic perception. This was true regardless the time constrain posed by the kind of counter-attack made: anticipation, simultaneous, descend or free. Therefore, it is recommended that training is directed towards a global perception. Additionally, it was found that for the counterattack in anticipation, making a different response for each type of attack is very inefficient; that is why it is suggested to choose the counter-attack previous to the opponent´s attack.
