Resumen
Concept Erythematous skin rashes can be associated with systemic or general disease, usually caused by an infection. There are numerous diseases in children that present with a rash; some are still of unknown cause and with no effective treatment. Classification Following a morphologic or predominance classification of the lesions we can divide these rashes into: maculopapular, scarlatiniform, papulovesicular, petechial and purpuric (the subject of our protocol), urticarial and exudative erythema multiforme. Treatment Any petechial or purpuric rash is a warning sign that requires urgent attention and analytic evaluation to rule out meningococcal infection. Only when the petechiae are punctiform and above the intermamillary line and the child is afebrile can laboratory tests be dispensed with.
